Genre

What is Genre?

The word genre is originated from the French word meaning 'type' or 'class'. Within media this means the class or type of film is. There are a range of different genres for example, Western, Horror, Thriller, Sci-Fi, Romance, Drama, Mystery, Musical, fantasy Etc...

 Different sounds, settings and images are associated with different genres. For example the images and videos below are associated with the Western genre;













The pictures above show what is associated with the western genre, which includes cow boy hats, tanned skin, guns, hot sun settings and horses.


Sub-Genres

Within genres there are also sub-genres which contain a mixture of genres. For example 'Now You See Me' is a mixture of Crime, mystery and Thriller.
